IKEA Hacks

Love this super cool IKEA hack. Using 3 Billy Bookcases!

Add wooden trim. In this case, it matches the homes existing trim.

Add a ladder and get a custom high-end look.

There no reason why you can't create this look too. I love the picture lights at the top and framed art hanging in front.

This year we had 16 people come over for Thanksgiving. I set up 3 tables and I had a couple of tablecloths that would white and one gold damask. I wasn't sure what I was going to use on the third table though and I'm not that thrilled with gold damask, but the color works for Thanksgiving and it was too traditional for me. (I'm kinda done with traditional.)

When I spotted this black & white table cover at Target $3.00, I knew it was just right. Bold, fun and contemporary for my house:
I know $3.00 isn't a very big spurge, but I'm sure I would have spent more if it was priced higher. It was 54" x 96". It is paper on top with a plastic backing. I had 3 tables to cover and I was sure this would only cover 2 tables, but what the hay.....First I laid the end of the table cover over the smaller 4' banquet table and cut it to fit so that I could wrap the edges under the table and tape with masking tape to the underside. I didn't really care what direction the pattern was going. I made the pumpkin centerpiece out of Ball canning lids by tying a bunch together. I stuck a twig in the middle and added a few leaves. It was so easy!

Then I laid the table cover over the 6' banquet table (for the younger adults) and cut off what was needed and taped up the underside as well.  I made the centerpiece by using a small glass vase and I cut off an artifical flower to place in the vase.

This left me with a strip of paper approx 16" wide by 66" long. So I thought why not a table runner? I used that piece on the main glass dining table!

I don't like using paper plates for holiday meals. I didn't have enough of my white Williams Sonoma 'Everyday' dishes for 16 people so I pulled out 8 of my Lenox china plates for my dining table. I'm sure your thinking that is crazy to use Lenox china with a paper table cover, but it worked. The kids and younger adults used the Williams Sonoma plates and us 'older' adults used the china.  :) Don't forget to put the crayons at each table too!

Now you wanta guess who did the most coloring?  Yes, you guessed it the 'older' adults!  Hah!

Ever hear of a pink & purple pumpkin? Me neither, but I like it!

I used my IKEA bowl for the centerpiece. I thought about buying fresh flowers, but they are expensive and to spend $30 for one day just didn't seem right to me. I bought the group of 4 gourds at the grocery store  cost less than $5.00. Why not go with the cheaper centerpiece? (I added a pear because I wanted 5 pieces...when I took my interior design classes they always said to use odd numbers in design so I did.)

This so much that I am thankful for...Health, Family, My home, Work, My three Grandchildren and My beautiful Daughters. I am so blessed! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I did!

Color Trend for 2016

I just found out that Benjamin Moore's Color Trend for 2016 is white. SIMPLY WHITE OC-117 to be exact. I love that they decided upon this color! They call it the "Silent Hero".

I have always loved the look of white on white. Someday I'm going have all white.

Now Benjamin Moore carries an allergy/asthma paint called Natura. This is great for allergy sufferers like me.

I do not get paid by Benjamin Moore to promote their products. I just like their products! As an interior designer I have been specifying Benjamin Moore for many homes throughout the years and have found that the color ranges is phenomenal and the coverage is great too.

Having FUN with Mosaics!

Just started to get interested in making my own Mosaics! I love the ocean and decided to make one with ocean inspired colors/objects using mostly sea glass with glass babbles, seashells, etc. I free- lanced my own design, but you could search on google for your own image.

I bought the frame at Michaels. It is metal frame/with chain (Comes with 2 pcs of glass, but you won't need both pieces of'll use one side/piece of glass.) Having a frame with hanging chain was perfect for this project!

You can trace a pattern onto plain white paper by putting your under your glass (I would not recommend sliding between both pieces of glass, because it would make it hard to get out after your pieces are glued down.) It might help if you tape your pattern in place with painters tape.

Example of traced paper. You can make a drawing with the colors of beads, etc. that you want to use (this was my nieces idea).

Gather your sea glass, beads and baubles (or whatever you are using):

Now all you have to do is glue down your sea glass, shells, beads, etc. I used E6000 glue. Put a dot of glue onto the glass/or plexiglass first, then place your piece of sea glass, bead, shell, etc down on it. Be careful not to move the piece. It will take a few minutes to set up.  After you are done gluing all the pieces down, keep it laying flat and let it dry overnight. Note: This glue will ooze out if you are not careful and can drip onto your plexi and get very messy! I put the lid back on after each dot of glue was squeezed onto the plexi. It took more time to do this, but it was so worth avoiding a mess with glue! Also, make sure you buy the tube of E6000 with this type of tip so you won't squeeze out more than you need. It is possible to rub the glue away with your fingers after it has set up some too.

My 10 year old grandson did this one on clear plexiglass/acrylic. Such a sweet mosaic of the mountains and ocean! See the sun?  We are going to drill holes at the top left and right corners and hang this in his room.

My 8 year old great niece proudly showed off her masterpiece done on acrylic/plexiglass.

Here is another project I started using sea glass and a starfish. I found this idea on a website...

Website photo lower right. I honestly don't remember where I found these, but they will all make fun projects with sea glass. I thought that I would put a mat on it like they did, but after I finished gluing down the pieces, I kind of like the white plexiglass as a mat!

Click HERE for the link to Amazon to order 12 x 12 white opaque plexiglass,
Using painters tape, measure in about 2 1/2 inches all around and place your painter tape. I didn't want to mark the plexi, because I wasn't sure if a pencil mark would come off so I just used the ruler as a guide.

I plan on adding a 12 x 12 white frame, but for now it is sitting in my bathroom window and though this photo turned out so dark, trust looks pretty good!

I found this frame at Joann Fabrics. It is a float frame with 2 pieces of glass. The acrylic piece will fit in there just perfectly! There are 'turnbuckles' in the back that will remove a thin piece of square wood that holds the 2 pieces of glass in. Just remove the wood 'frame' and glass and insert your acrylic.

What could be better than dreaming of the ocean?

Great Sale at Restoration Hardware!

I love love love Restoration Hardware's bedding! Can't afford their furniture, etc, but when bedding or  bath stuff go on sale...look out!  I just purchased this great Premium Down Blanket to replace one by Restoration Hardware that I have had for several years (8+ years?). Really the only thing wrong with it was that it was faded from sunshine. It really held up! We like it so much that I decided to buy a new one and I was looking for a specific color. Light Silver Sage was MY color! King size $99. Orig $209. There are currently 7 colors that are on sale and even $125 - 155 isn't a bad deal and FREE SHIPPING! I hope they keep carrying these down blankets though!  Click this link to see the sale:

Another favorite thing of mine at Restoration Hardware are their linen bordered towels. I think they look classy with the linen border and they are very absorbent. These are also on sale right now too. Click this link to see the sale:
